Composition and construction of anti-skid studs

September 07, 2024

Anti-skid studs are devices used to increase surface friction and prevent sliding, and are widely used in footwear, tires, floors, and other scenarios where enhanced grip is required. Anti-slip studs are mainly composed of two parts: the stud core (also known as the stud head) and the stud body (or known as the stud base).

Stud core:

Stud core of anti-skid studs are mostly made of tungsten carbide materials, such as tungsten carbide YG8, whose chemical composition mainly includes WC (tungsten carbide) and Co (cobalt), and this material has the characteristics of high hardness, abrasion-resistant, and low-temperature-resistant, which is very suitable for use on cold and wet or icy road surfaces.

Color: Stud core color is usually metallic black.

FUNCTION: The stud core is the main working part of the anti-skid stud, which provides the necessary grip and anti-skid effect through its sharp tip in contact with the road surface.

Stud body:

MATERIAL: Stud body, on the other hand, are mostly made of metallic materials such as mild steel to provide enough strength and stability to ensure that the stud core can be firmly fixed in the desired position.

Function: Stud body not only support and protect the stud core, but are also designed to ensure that anti-slip studs can be easily installed and removed.
