tractor tire studs vs chains

January 04, 2025

Tractors need additional skid control to improve traction and stability when traveling on icy, slushy or rough roads.

Anti-skid tire studs and anti-skid chains are two common choices, and they have many differences and advantages.

Tire studs are embedded directly into the surface of the tire, increasing friction by contacting the ground with the spike tip. They are suitable for hard surfaces covered with snow and ice, such as icy roads or compacted snow, and provide excellent anti-skid performance in such environments. Less effective on muddy or soft ground.

Anti-skid chains cover the entire outer surface of the tire, creating greater friction with the ground through the embedded action of the metal chain. More suitable for mud, loose snow and more rugged terrain, not only anti-skid, but also improve the tire's grip on soft ground. On hard ice, while effective, the friction performance may not be as good as anti-skid spikes.

If you're looking for the right anti-skid gear for your tractor, you can choose based on the environment you're driving in, or contact us to help you come up with the right solution.
