When do the anti skid tire studs need to be replaced?

September 14, 2024

The degree of wear and tear of anti-skid studs is an important factor in their effectiveness and safety. When studs are worn to a certain level, their grip and performance may be significantly reduced, so they need to be inspected and replaced promptly. Here are some suggestions for determining how worn the spikes need to be replaced:

1.Tire studs Wear

Exposed Metal: If the metal portion of the anti skid tire stud begins to be exposed, it indicates that the anti skid tire stud is worn down significantly. The sharpness and grip of the nail will be greatly reduced and it will need to be replaced.

Anti skid tire stud detachment: If any anti skid tire stud is found to have detached or fallen off, the tire needs to be replaced or the anti skid tire stud reinstalled in a timely manner.

2. Tire wear

Tire tread wear: The effectiveness of anti-skid stud is closely related to the wear of the tire itself. When the tire tread is worn to a point where the remaining depth is insufficient, the tire's grip and anti-skid performance will be reduced, even if the studs are not severely worn.

Cracked or damaged tires: If the tires are cracked or otherwise visibly damaged, the effectiveness of the anti-skid studs will also be affected and the tires and anti skid tire studs should be replaced.

3. Loss of grip

Driving Feeling: If you feel that your vehicle's grip on icy roads is significantly reduced, especially when braking, this may be a sign that the anti-skid stud are worn out.

Road performance: On icy or snowy roads, the vehicle is prone to skidding or lack of traction, which may also be a sign of worn-out anti-skid studs.
